Lisa Kattenberg is a PhD candidate in the early modern history department. She is working on a project entitled 'Lessons from the Low Countries. The theoretical and practical impact of historical experience on Habsburg theories of state, 1590-1650'. Investigating ideas of political thinkers active within the Spanish Monarchy's government about the practical value of history and their translation into the political present, this project explores both the role of reason of state in the seventeenth-century transformation of historical thought and the close interaction between early modern political theory and practice.
