Floris Solleveld joins the Vossius Center in September for three months as a Research Fellow with his project Gathering Language: towards a history of language materials, reproductions, and overviews.

About the project

Floris aims to set up a new research project on the history of linguistics, under the working title Gathering Language. It is concerned particularly with the material aspects of language study and the communication of linguistic knowledge in the 17th-19th centuries: the use of facsimiles, samples, and typeface along with original manuscripts, and the emergence of language typology and language atlases.

About the researcher

Floris Solleveld carried out his PhD research at the Radboud University Nijmegen on The Transformation of the Humanities: Ideals and Practices of Scholarship between Enlightenment and Romanticism.
